Barry was appointed as Executive Officer of GippSport in February 2004 after a 37 year career with the Education Department as a teacher, consultant, Principal , Senior Education Officer and Assistant Regional Director.
He is married to Loretta and has three children and three grandsons. He resides in Traralgon and is really enjoying the challenges his role especially now that GippSport has spread its wings into Eastern and Southern Gippsland.
Barry has had a life long involvement in football and cricket as a Player, Secretary, President and Coach at both club and association level. Over the years he has developed very strong networks with the media as well as acting as a Master of Ceremonies at various sporting functions across Gippsland.
He is a Life Member of the Traralgon and District Cricket Association, the Gormandale Cricket Club and the Orbost Snowy Rovers Football Club. Recently Barry was awarded the Centenary Medal for his services to sport in Gippsland and was a finalist in the 2005 Minister for Sport and Recreation Award. He is a very keen golfer although he does not get onto the Traralgon Golf Club course as much as he would like. He also has a very strong interest in local cricket and is currently Secretary of the Gormandale Cricket Club which assists greatly in his understanding of the challenges faced by grassroots sporting clubs.
His brief as Executive Officer is to oversee the staff of GippSport and to
assist them in reaching the agreed objectives of the organization. He reports
to a Board of Management which comprises community and local government representatives.
