Thank You Volunteer launch

trim

GippSport launched the new Thank You Volunteer program at the Community Expo held at Leongatha last Thursday. A large audience was in attendance and it was a great opportunity to highlight this program to a number of community volunteer organizations. The program centres round recognizing volunteers who are the lifeline of our sporting clubs and recreation organizations.

The great news is that over 100 clubs in Gippsland have registered their interest already. All of these clubs will receive a supply of Thank You Volunteer cards and will also receive a framed certificate for their nominated Volunteer of the Year.

If your club is interested in participating in this program, which is ABSOLUTELY FREE, please contact your local GippSport Program Coordinator or email:

Successful training sessions in Gippsland

trim

The Working With Children check seminars were a huge success in Bairnsdale, Sale, Morwell and Wonthaggi.

A seminar on ‘Drugs in Sport' held at Morwell drew an attendance of 80 people. The problem of drugs in sport is a major priority that is being addressed. More of these workshops will be coming to Gippsland throughout this year. If your club is interested in holding a forum, or if your members are interested in attending a seminar please contact GippSport for more information.

More than 120 people attended Bouncing Racism Out of Sport supported by WorkSafe VCFL which was recently held at the Inverloch Kongwak FNC. The club should be applauded for their efforts in the development of strategies to accommodate people from all groups of our community.

SPECIAL EVENTS/PROGRAMS

Recent multi-cultural events

trim

The Indigenous Health and Wellbeing program being conducted in Wonthaggi for Cape York Partnerships is going well. Guests have included health promotion workers, police, property management personnel, education providers and drug and alcohol professionals.

The eight week program is supported by Indigenous Sport and Recreation Victoria. It has provided a link for the group of young men from Northern Australia to local services whilst having a great time playing sport.

A Family Fun Day was held recently at the Phillip Island Discovery Camp for over 30 new arrivals living in Wonthaggi. Participants included Sudanese and recently arrived members of the community from Burma. A water awareness session was followed by activities and beach games with nine youngsters taking to the water, some for the first time, to try their hand at body boarding. After lunch a trip to the local koala conservation park capped off a fantastic and tiring day for all.

The activity was supported by the Victorian Multi Cultural Commission and the YMCA. GippSport would like to thank all those who were involved.

TENNIS REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT OFFICER PROGRAM

Tennis Regional Development Officer Program

trim

We are developing a resources page (www.tennis.gippsport.com.au/resources.php) that will provide some specific tennis information for clubs. Clubs will also have a direct link to the existing resources on the GippSport page at www.gippsport.com.au/clubdev.php

One of the resource documents refers to a Checklist to audit your courts to see if they meet the Tennis Victoria Standards. If you complete this checklist and send it to Tennis Victoria it can result in a reduction in your excess for your insurance. This is great information for any tennis club to have.
