FEEDBACK

trim

Club tip for this month – nutrition myth busters

trim

Myth: Carbohydrates make you fat and low carbohydrate diets are the key to losing weight.
Reality: Weight gain occurs if you consistently consume more kilojoules than you expend through exercise and daily activities. These extra kilojoules could come from carbohydrates, proteins, fats or alcohol. In fact, fatty foods are more energy-dense per gram than carbohydrates, protein and alcohol. Also, carbohydrates are particularly important as they are the primary fuel source for the brain, central nervous system and kidneys.

Myth: Avoid breakfast if you're trying to lose weight.
Reality: Skipping breakfast should be avoided, as it can impair concentration and make you more likely to overeat later in the day. Evidence suggests that eating a healthy breakfast daily can decrease your risk of developing obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

Breakfast helps to kick-start the body's metabolism for the day, which can actually aid in weight loss. Try a breakfast with a mix of wholegrain products, fruit and low fat dairy products.
