Grants Currently on Offer
National Binge Drinking Strategy Community Level Initiative
This is the first funding round of the National Strategy. Applications are invited from
community groups to
develop a prevention or early intervention project in a local community. Projects may be up to 2 years duration and generally are limited to $150,000.
Preliminary on-line registration is required at the Dept. of Health & Ageing. This round closes 11 August 2008.
Wellington Shire Community Grants 2008/09
The Shire offers two types of grants.
The first one is for programs, eg. first aid courses, youth focussed six week badminton program or indigenous six week tennis program, or minor equipment such as new computer chairs.
The second funding grant is for facilities. This could enable your sports ground to install water tanks, re-lay a cricket pitch, put ramps in, an equipment shed, a new stove etc.
Guidelines and applications for each program are on the Shire's web site, and the Shire invites discussion with them before you submit. Applications close on 1 August.
Sports Incentive Program
The Australian Sports Foundation has two forms of support. Category 1 is assistance with fundraising activities and may include discretionary grants. An additional benefit is the availability of tax deductibility for individual donors.
Category 2 assistance is for facility development, equipment, team travel, major events or sport development. Applications are on-going. Link for more information.
Sports Without Borders Grants to assist the involvement of young people from humanitarian or refugee backgrounds. Grants will assist with costs associated with membership and participation, or with the conducting of community or sporting events.
Next closing dates will be 29 August, 31 October, and 31 December 2008. Link for more information and contact details.
Foundation for Rural & Regional Communities
The Foundation offers two grants which are specifically for small rural communities up 10,000 population. Intending applicants need to be aware of the conditions and target groups for each grant, and the Foundation is open to applicant inquiries.
The Helping Hands Grants are for major projects with up to $50,000 available, and the next two rounds close 6 August and 27 October 2008. The Small Grants for Small Rural Communities provides smaller amounts of up to $5,000. There are normally to grant cycles each year, with the next closing on 30 September 2008.
WorkSafe Club Safety Fund (with Netball Victoria)
Grants are for netball/football clubs which are members of the WorkSafe Country Netball League. The focus is on safety, injury prevention, and player protection, and this could cover a wide range of initiatives. Grants close 7 November 2008. More details from Netball Victoria.
Netball Victoria Development Fund
For associations and regions for projects to improve their management capacities, or netball opportunities, participation, and disability inclusion. Grants close 7 November 2008. More details from Netball Victoria.
Cycling Promotion Fund
Funding is available for projects which increase cycling participation, with priority to those which encourage cycling as transport or as a health/recreation activity. Potential applicants are invited to download guidelines and discuss their project ideas with the Fund's Program Director.
Tennis Australia Court Rebate and Facility Loan Scheme
Financial assistance with court resurfacing or upgrading. The scheme is ongoing. The rebate varies with the nature of the work. Details available here.
The Facility Loan Scheme also provides loans of up to $80,000 for facility projects, upgrades or extensions. More information from this link.
Victorian Community Support - Strengthening Communities For organisations, networks and partnerships to implement projects that will advance the interests of their communities, not just for sport and recreation. Grants of up to $500,000 are available on an on-going basis (ie, no set closing date).

Victorian Volunteer Small Grants
The grants aim to
help local community organisations to attract new volunteers from diverse backgrounds and create new volunteering opportunities. Grants are available up to $5000, and are ongoing (ie, no set closing date).

Emergency Grant to Replace Essential Sporting Equipment
The grant is to assist with the replacement of equipment damaged by fire, other disaster, or criminal damage. The equipment must be essential to the sport, or be first aid equipment. Applications are on-going, but must be submitted within 3 months of the loss.

Country Football and Netball Program
The Country Football and Netball Program provides funding to assist country football and netball clubs to develop facilities for football, netball and umpiring. They can be shared community, club and social facilities. There is no closing date and applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Country Action Grant Scheme
Funding will be provided to clubs, organisations and community groups who deliver sport and active recreation in rural and regional Victoria. Criteria are:
- Initiatives that help organisations operate more effectively
- Funding for attendance at relevant training courses.
This program is open for applications on an ongoing basis. Link to applications and guidelines.
Victalent
The program provides financial assistance to sport and recreation organisations in regional and rural Victoria to support developing athletes, coaches, officials and teams who travel extensively to train and compete. Maximum grant is $500.

Telstra Assistance Fund
The Telstra Assistance Fund gave grants of equipment are available across five sports: AFL, Football (soccer), Rugby league, Surf Life Saving, Swimming. For each sport there was a set list of items available. There were no cash contributions. Applications closed 30 June 2008.
The Sport leadership Grant for Women program provided opportunities for women in sport leadership training. Key areas are: high performance coaching or officiating, indigenous women, in disability sport, and for those from culturally diverse backgrounds and general sport leadership. Grants closed 15 May 2008. Fresh Foods Kids Community Grants to encourage the health and well-being of primary school-aged children. Maximum was $5000, closing date 25 April 2008. Applications from Safeway or Woolworths stores or the Fresh Food Kids web site.
Drought Relief for Community Sport and Recreation Program. To help manage facilities and water use where Stage 3 or 4 restrictions apply. Funds were also available for synthetic surfaces. Applications closed 23 November 2007, and second phase on 25 February 2008, and had to be made through Local Councils.
Men's Health Community Grants from Foundation 49. up to $1500, for a community-based men's health promotion project. Closing date was 29 February, 2008.
Louise Sauvage ‘Aspire to be a Champion’ Foundation Sporting Grants for disabled athletes or teams for 2008. Grants of $2,000 (individuals) and $5,000 (teams) toward costs of competition, training, equipment or travel. Closing date was 31 December.
Building and Facilities Program - Victorian Multicultural Commission for construction or upgrading. Grants of up to $15,000. Applications closed 20 December 2007.
Organisational Support - Victorian Multicultural Commission. Assistance for general costs in running community organisations or programs associated with culturally diverse groups. Maximum grant was $5,000. Applications closed 20 December 2007.
Strengthening Multicultural Communities Funding up to $20,000 for projects which address in culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Applications closed 20 December 2007.
Cricket Victoria General Facilities Grants for projects extending opportunities for playing cricket by developing, upgrading or extending practice or playing facilities. Up to 50% of project cost could be provided. Applications were due 8 February 2008 but closed before Christmas due to extraordinary demand.
Active Club Grants. A VicHealth grant relating to the promotion of physical activity, healthy eating and reducing sporting injuries. Open to diverse organisations and programs with grants of up to $2500 for equipment or up to $500 for volunteer training. Closing date was 3 December 2007.
Cricket Victoria Drought Response Grants - for projects designed to support the sustainable use of turf wickets. Applications closed 14 November 2007.
Community Facility Funding Program to advance the interests of local communities. Grants were up to $500,000 for major projects with lesser amounts for minor project, planning, and environmentally sustainable design grants. Applications, submitted by local councils, closed 9 November 2007.
Tennis Shade Grant Scheme - Grants, of up to $1000, were for permanent shades. Applications closed 5 October 2007.
Sport Development for Women Grants, 2008 - Funding of up to $1500 for individual women to assist them in gaining skills or qualifications to enhance their abilities in supporting sports. Applications were open from 6 August to 1 October 2007.
Our Club, Our Future Sporting Uniform Grants of up to $1000 aim to enhance recruitment and participation in clubs. Grants were open until 3 September 2007.
WorkSafe Club Safety Grants for football and netball were to provide financial assistance to netball/football clubs to improve or provide added safety for players, people involved with the club, and spectators. Closing date was 31 August.
Telstra grants for football (3 codes), swimming, surf life saving and athletics clubs.The grants differed for each sport. Applications closed 1 August.
Sport Leadership Grants for Women 2007/8 - For women at the club level to undertake education and training which will enhance the resources and services offered by their sporting club. The grants were for practical courses to develop skills in coaching, officiating, management/administration, and governance. They closed on 29 June 2007.
Community Water Grants - Grants of up to $50,000 were available to a number of groups including sporting clubs and schools. Possible projects included water tanks, dual flush toilets, water saving taps and showers, or replacing grass with synthetic turf. Registrations were required by 22 June, applications closed 4 July 2007.
Volunteer Small Equipment Grants There were two grants, VSEG and VSEG - Sport. In each case the funding, up to $3000, was to provide support for equipment which supported volunteers in not-for-profit organisations. Closing date was 22 June 2007.
Drought Relief for Country Sports - funding for projects to help manage grounds or public pools where Stage 3 or 4 restrictions applied. Applications closed 21 February 2007 and had to be made by Local Government.
